Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. SID Initially started as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and was then taken up by the Insafe Network as one of its earliest actions in 2005. Safer Internet Day has since grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 180 countries worldwide – amazing right?
Creating a Better Internet
This year, the Safer Internet Day slogan ‘Together for a better internet’ encourages everyone to join the movement. Participating and making the most of the internet’s potential to bring people together. This global, community-led approach encourages everyone to come together and play their part for Safer Internet Day.
The aim for Safer Internet Day is to spark a national conversation about being safe when using the internet. Using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively is the core message. From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, with each year that SID is celebrated, the aim remains the same – raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
