Our Story
25 years of education technology
- 2001
Education technology and safeguarding origins
Jon Valentine creates the first school safeguarding software designed to detect concerning words and phrases and capture contextual visual evidence, within a centrally managed approach that also helps schools control classrooms and manage devices.
- 2000s
Pioneering safeguarding monitoring
As internet access in schools expanded, the team developed keyword-based safeguarding detection with contextual visual evidence, before the category existed as a market. Linguistic expertise and expert-developed language resources were built into the detection engine.
- 2018
Senso cloud platform launch
The Senso cloud platform launched, bringing safeguarding monitoring, classroom management, web content filtering and IT operations onto a shared tenant architecture. Schools gained a unified platform instead of separate tools.
- 2020s
US and Australian expansion
Senso extended into the United States as Senso, Inc. and into Australia as Renato Software Pty Ltd, with region-appropriate data residency and regulatory context. US school districts and Australian schools joined the growing customer base.
- Today
More than 12,000 schools across 30 countries
Senso is trusted by more than 12,000 schools across 30 countries. The platform continues to expand its safeguarding, filtering, classroom and IT capabilities, carrying forward 25 years of education technology experience.
Expertise
Human expertise alongside technology
Linguistic expertise
Senso's safeguarding detection engine is built on expert-developed language resources, including the linguistic work of Charlotte Kennedy, Safeguarding Language Specialist. Detection is informed by human expertise, not solely automated pattern matching.
Education-only focus
Every feature in the Senso platform is designed for the school environment, for teachers, safeguarding leads and IT administrators in schools, trusts and districts. Senso does not serve other markets.
UK-based moderation team
Assisted Monitoring Services is staffed by a UK-based specialist team with safeguarding knowledge. Human reviewers apply judgement to detected events before they reach school DSL teams.
